Scientist Creates Life
You may have heard the news that a biologist, Dr. Craig Venter is claiming to have created life synthetically. From what I understood, Venter and his team of researches removed the DNA (functioning parts) of a yeast cell, leaving it “dead”. Then, they re-injected their mixture of synthetic chemicals and the yeast cell came back to life and started functioning and multiplying.
Dr. Venter has encountered a slew of backlash from his claim. Of course many people are worried that he will be playing GOD, Others are worried that this synthetic form of bacteria could cause unforeseen problems to humans, and still others do not believe that he actually accomplished creating life.
I saw Venter’s interview on Good Morning America and on the positive side he claims his discovery can help eliminate the Gulf Oil Spill along with several other great and wonderful things. What really disturbed me was pretty much the first thing out of his mouth, he said “there is no great miracle involved in the creation of life”. What?!? All I can say to that Mr. Venter is…your work is yet to be determined.
